One Piece!

So I retained in the end. Surprising outcome, but something that made me a little more than pleased these days. It's just that I forgot to consider the effects on the people around me, and my mum especially is getting super paranoid about studies.

Congrats Daph! On making it into UCL medicine! I'm sure you'll be a great doctor too :D I'll have lots to learn from you so lets start working hard now! Like what I tell everyone in M1 now.

I was listening to this song that I really liked, and have been humming the theme song in Japanese over and over, and it turned out to be this terribly apt song for me right before school.

The lyrics go like this

“We Are”
One Piece OP#1
Translation: Maureen S. O’Brien, 6/26/05

CH:
We are putting all our dreams in one basket now.
To go discover all the things we’ve looked for so long.

ONE PIECE!

Boring stuff like compasses just go to slow us down.
Throw it on the fire and take the helm. It’s up to you.
Deep layers of dust may lie upon this treasure map, but still
If we go and test the tale, you know it may turn out to be true.

When your own gale-force storm hits, all you just really must do’s
Ride on somebody else’s better day!
Just think about it; it’s okay!

CH:
We are putting all our dreams in one basket now,
To go discover all the things we’ve looked for so long.

Gotta pocketful of coin,
So then it’s — you wanna be my friend?
We are, we are on the cruise!
We are!
One Piece - "We Are" Live

Just listening to this song makes me happy. I think the world we live in is a little bit lost at the moment. I still can't escape this feeling of being moulded by a system that's beyond my control. We can't afford the fine handmade things, and the handmakers are retiring because they're not selling as many handmade things. But handmade things are the only things that will last for a long time and have been carefully made.

I don't know.. This is a thought that's hard to communicate. But sometimes I agree with the song. The compass given to us may actually slow us down. Not because the compass is wrong or anything. But sometimes knowing where to go and what to do leads us further from who we want to be and what we want to achieve and it's very easy to forget that.

We really have lots of compasses in our lives. People who feel that they know the right way, knowledge from books, from doctrine, from people in authority. But all these are compasses that point to things that are already known. We have a dusty map. We have legends. We have dreams.

Aren't those things we have already good enough to lead us to discover a legend? Aren't those things we have already good enough for us to set sail? Like POTC 2, the compass may simply be what the heart desires most.
